Government Office Tower — Multi-Level Fit-Out
Government / Darwin, NT | 300+ workstations across 9+ levels, multi-year program
The Project
A multi-year, multi-level commercial furniture fit-out for a major government office building in Darwin’s CBD — a prominent 11+ storey tower housing government departments and agencies.
Over several stages, we furnished multiple floors across the building, delivering 300+ workstations along with meeting rooms, collaborative spaces, executive offices, and common areas. The project included custom fabrication elements — transparent divider screens and locally sourced worktops — with all manufacturing completed in Australia.
The Challenge
Darwin presents unique logistical challenges. Every piece of furniture had to be transported from manufacturers on the eastern seaboard, coordinated through freight networks, and delivered into a CBD building with active tenancies on other floors. The tropical climate adds a layer of complexity — humidity, temperature, and seasonal conditions all factor into material handling, storage, and installation scheduling.
The multi-stage nature of the program meant returning to the same building over several years, each time coordinating with the building’s ongoing operations, existing tenancies, and the principal contractor’s construction programme. Consistency across stages was critical — the furniture on Level 14 had to match the standard set on Level 4, even when delivered years apart.
Our Approach
The project was managed through detailed procurement tracking and freight coordination. Each stage was treated as its own project with its own documentation, while maintaining continuity with previous stages. Custom elements were specified and manufactured in advance, allowing installation to proceed without delays once site access was granted.
The relationship with the principal contractor was managed through clear communication, reliable scheduling, and clean handover documentation. When you’re 3,000 kilometres from the manufacturer and working in a building with active government operations, there’s no room for coordination failures.
The Outcome
300+ workstations delivered across 9+ levels over a multi-year program. The project continues with additional stages and modifications — a long-running engagement built on consistent delivery, reliable logistics, and the ability to maintain quality standards across years and multiple building levels.
